Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) is a problem for many people.
Constant underarm sweating can lead to skin irritation and embarrassment with wet patches on clothes. It causes persistent stains on clothing. Body odour is harder to control even with strong deodorant and antiperspirant not being effective.
In the past few options existed for treating hyperhidrosis of the arms.
Anti-sweat injections can be used but are temporary. Surgical excision is drastic.
Dr Teston’s clinic now features the innovative miraDry® device offering fast, long-lasting relief without incisions and with minimal downtime.
If you:
Then miraDry® treatment may be effective for you.
While hyperhidrosis may be seen in one or more body areas, eg. feet, palms, forehead, etc. miraDry® is only at present available for treating excessive underarm sweating.
When you schedule an appointment with Dr Teston, she will discuss whether miraDry® is the right treatment for you.
Dr Teston performs miraDry® procedures in her office and most patients find the treatment to be comfortable.
Before your session, the area to be treated will be marked out and local anaesthetic will be administered with a new application device that reduces any pain.
A handheld applicator delivers thermal energy to the sweat and odour glands, which are then disabled.
The results are long-lasting.
Dr Teston will complete your treatment session within about 1 hour. You should experience minimal to mild discomfort during your procedure.
Some patients worry that elimination of these sweat glands will interfere with the body’s ability to cool itself when necessary.
However, the sweat glands under the arm only account for 2% of the total body sweat glands. Therefore, your body’s natural temperature regulation will not be affected.
Most patients experience some swelling, redness, and soreness under the arms after a miraDry® procedure. You will find oral pain medication and ice packs work well to reduce the side effects for a few days. There can be some numbness and tingling in the area that lingers for a few weeks but it is not usually severe enough to keep you from regular activities.
Patients will notice complete dryness immediately after treatment and within 6 weeks a degree of wetness may return. miraDry® treatment can reduce moisture by more than 80%.
80% of patients will achieve complete results after a single treatment session.
Some will require a 2nd treatment to achieve desired results, which would be done 3 months apart.
miraDry® treatment is an excellent option for patients that do not get the desired effect from topical deodorants and are looking for a long-term solution to excessive sweating. The non-surgical procedure works well underarm sweat in both men and women, regardless of skin type and tone. If you would like to learn more about miraDry® or find out if this is the right treatment for you, now is the time to schedule your appointment with Dr Teston.

Your miraDry® treatment will be delivered by an accredited practitioner. In order to give the treatment, staff must be accredited following miraDry®’s strict guidelines and policies. At our practice, both Dr Teston and our practice nurses are accredited and able to perform this treatment for our patients.
A single miraDry® treatment can reduce underarm sweating by more than 80%. Hence, we find that most patients will only require a single treatment. However, approximately 20% of patients will require a second treatment to achieve the results they are after. If a second treatment may be needed, it will be discussed at your follow-up appointment.
In order to perform the procedure thoroughly, Dr Teston suggests that patients allow 2 hours for their full treatment.
One month after your first treatment, Dr Teston will meet you to review your results in-person. This appointment is included in the cost of the treatment.
While you may require ice packs and some topical analgesia for 24 hours after the treatment, you can go back to work the following day.
