Frequently Asked Questions
Pain and swelling are normal after body surgery and typically decreases after the first few days. The level of post-surgery pain typically reduces significantly within one to two week however, depending on the type of surgery, some soreness may persist.
Dr Teston will prescribe the most appropriate pain relief for each individual patient.
The recovery time (or time to heal) after body surgery depends on the individual patient’s ability to heal and the type of surgery undertaken.
The recovery period after body surgery varies, depending on the type of surgery; however, light, non-strenuous activities can typically resume in 2-4 weeks and other normal activities within 6-8 weeks. Strenuous activity and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least 6-8 weeks.
Body surgery can affect your mobility. It can cause temporary mobility limitations due to swelling, surgical restrictions and pain during recovery.
However, it can also improve longer-term mobility by removing excess skin that restricts movement and reducing pain associated with excess weight.
The sensation/feeling in your body will change after body surgery typically via a temporary feeling of tingling or numbness followed by a return of feeling that may include sensations such as twinges, itching or burning as nerves heal. Most patients regain normal or near-normal feeling, permanent changes are possible depending on the type of surgery undertaken.
During your consultations, Dr Teston will explain all of the risks and recovery involved in the type of body surgery you are interested in.
